Don Fogg has long been one of the most respected knifemakers in the country, by both his peers, as well as collectors. He is known as a patient teacher in the art of bladesmithing.  His work is exacting yet reflects the raw beauty of natural form.  Many of his knives have an eastern influence.  He understands knifemaking as a transcendent zen-like artistry.  You can see the hours of hand-work in his knives, and the detail that originates from deep patience and hard work.  He started bladesmithing full-time in 1977, and earned his Mastersmith stamp from the ABS in 1997.  Now retired from the industry, he always felt that forging and heat treating steel were the most fascinating parts of knifemaking.  He makes a wide range of knives and swords, from paring knives to two-handed broad swords.  His unique maker's mark is an inlaid 24K gold cherry blossom logo.

This drop point hunter is testament to Don's outstanding skills and attention to detail.  It is in excellent, unused condition.  The blade was forged in the "Brut de Forge" style.  Don's signature 24K gold Cherry Blossom logo is clearly evident.  The handle scales are smooth stag - in perfect condition - no cracks, chips, checks, etc.  The bolster is brass, with a beautiful antiqued finish.  The pins are also brass.  The knife is on consignment from the collection of another world renown Mastersmith.  He acquired it directly from Don, and it has been in his collection since.  Being a Mastersmith himself, the knife was well cared for, and stored properly.  This Mastersmith is "thinning" out his collection, and Windy City Knives is honored to have been appointed as his chosen purveyor.

The knife comes with the original leather belt sheath.  Since Don has been retired from knifemaking for 20 years, his work is becoming increasingly more difficult to find and / or acquire.  This hunter is a beautiful example of his work, and would be as comfortable (and functional) in the field, as it would be in any collection.
