Jim Crowell is well-known for his flawless forging ability. This Bowie knife is testament to his outstanding work and attention to detail. It is Brand New and just acquired direct from Jim's shop in Mountain View, AR.
Jim forged the canned Damascus blade from 3/8" ball bearings and 52100 steel, using 1084 powder. The steels were welded together and drawn out, giving the blade a very unique and cool look, from the stretched out ball bearings seen in the steel's pattern. The top edge (swedge) of the clip point blade is not sharpened. The handle is made from a beautifully colored, richly figured, solid piece of Amber Stag. The guard and butt cap are 416 stainless steel. Jim's signature "Shooting Star" maker's mark is stamped on one side of the ricasso, and his "MS" is stamped on the other side of the ricasso. The blade grinds and geometry are perfect. Comes with a leather frog button sheath, with shark skin overlay on the front, made by Jim. This one would be a great addition to any collection, or be right at home out in the field. Jim's knives are well-respected among both makers and collectors.
