Ian van Reenan from Amarillo, TX makes hunting knives, liner lock knives, and more recently slip joint folders.  He made his first slip joint folder with the help of Bill Ruple, master of the slip joint.  Bill's work is still an inspiration for every slip joint he makes.  Now in his 14th year of living in Texas, Ian has successfully and artistically combined elements from his African heritage into his new Texas identity. Like a man who loves his surroundings, Ian uses natural resources in Texas for artistic inspiration, and occasionally elephant ivory to showcase his proud South African heritage.

This large slip joint folder features an ATS 34 steel, clip point blade, stainless steel front and rear bolsters, file worked liners, and beautifully executed Roman Knot file-work on the back-spacer and continuing along part of the spine of the blade.  The scales are amber jigged bone, with an inlaid bow-tie shield on one side.  The knife features a half-stop, locks up tight with no blade play, and the blade seating is excellent.  Nice large nail nick, with an easy pull.
