Mathieu Herrero is a French knifemaker who has been making custom knives since 2011. His main interests lie in traditional cutlery. His early studies, and training and experience was as a violin maker. This, he believes naturally led him to look for more traditional work. And this led him to specializing in crafting handmade slip-joint knives. His knives reflect his unique experiences and knowledge. Each knife reflects his meticulous craftmanship, attention to detail, fit-and-finish and choice of materials. His knives are both functional and esthetically pleasing. This knife was a custom order for the one and only original owner. Mathieu does not make many custom orders. This knife was built in January 2025.
This is Mathieu's custom LITTLE BOTTLE model, a slip-joint folding knife not unlike a gunstock pattern. It features a 14C28N steel blade. The blade steel is also known as Sandvik 14C28N, is stainless steel made by Sandvik, a European steel company in Sweden. It is known to offer among the best, if not the best toughness in knife steels out there. This is its primary attribute and reason why it is a favorite steel among many knife enthusiasts. The handle scales are polished natural stag with nickel silver liners and integral fluted front bolster and plain rear bolster. Mathieu etched "MH" inside the handle on the backspring. The blade opens with or without the nail nick. The nail nick is small and shallow, and partially hidden in the handle, so you'll need a good nail to catch it. Alternatively, you can open it by pinching and grabbing the blade. The blade does not have a half stop and sits centered between the liners. The fit-and-finish is outstanding. Make sure to check out the transition from blade tang to backspring - you can barely see a line! Nice walk and talk! Comes with a generic padded, zippered case. A great everyday carry or add it to your collection.
