James Hunsberger Westinghouse Micarta ZULU Slip-Joint Folding Knife
James Hunsberger Westinghouse Micarta ZULU Slip-Joint Folding Knife
James Hunsberger got his love of knives at a very young age from his Uncle Bernie. He grew up in SW Michigan and moved to Florida with his wife, Vicki in 2016. James has always been fascinated with knives and mechanical things. Hence, his desire to build pocketknives. He got his first experience in making a slip-joint after attending a 5-day class taught by Mastersmith Steve Dunn in 2020 at the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing. In early 2021, James got his home shop set up and running in University Park, FL. He credits Steve Dunn, Luke Swenson and Evan Nicolaides with providing the education and guidance to become a knifemaker. Windy City Knives was introduced to James at Blade Show Texas 2023 by Luke Swenson. Luke was favorably impressed with the quality of James' knives, his keen eye and attention to detail and suggested I check out his knives. Windy City Knives is now privileged to work with James, and excited to be able to offer his knives. This is James' Zulu slip-joint folding knife. The blade is CPM 154 stainless steel, cryo treated and tested at 61 HRC. The blade is hand ground with a satin belt finish and polished swedge. The handle material is layered Westinghouse Micarta with a Federal Shield on the presentation side. The bolster is integral to the relieved liners. The hardware is all 410 stainless steel. There is an ample, well-cut nail nick below the polished swedge. The blade has a half-stop, there is no blade play in the open position, and the blade sits centered between the liners when closed. Nice walk and talk too! The knife will come in a padded, zippered Hunsberger Knives case and Hunsberger Knives cardboard box, along with two (2) stickers and James' signed COA.
