John M. Smith Custom Fixed Blade Bowie Knife (SOLD)
John M. Smith Custom Fixed Blade Bowie Knife (SOLD)
This carbon steel Bowie was forged by John M. Smith. John was well-respected as a forger of modern day Bowies. He was a student of Bill Bagwell, among others, and came from a blacksmithing background. His Bowies are particularly sought after by collectors and users alike. John has retired from knifemaking, and his Bowies do not come up for sale very often. Most who have one of his knives, choose not to part with them. This is a rare opportunity to own one of John's coveted Bowies. This Bowie features a hand rubbed clip point blade, with a sharpened top edge. The knife features hidden tang construction, with what appears to be a Desert Ironwood handle. The guard and pommel look to be Damascus. The blade is marked John M. Smith on the ricasso. This knife is from a private collection. It was acquired directly from the original owner. The knife dates back to the early 1980's. Despite being religiously coated in gun oil and stored in a climate controlled environment, the blade does show signs of pinpoint pitting and light staining. There is no sheath. It will ship in a padded, zippered case.
Condition : Previously owned. As noted above. Never used, carried or sharpened.
