Kyle Royer Damascus Bowie Knife, Fossil Mammoth Scales
Kyle Royer Damascus Bowie Knife, Fossil Mammoth Scales
From Kyle's website..."At eighteen, Kyle graduated high school and two weeks later received his Journeyman Smith Stamp and a rare double win of the George Peck Award and Bill Moran Award, “the 18-year-old prodigy”, “the blazing bladesmith” was what BLADE Magazine labeled him. Following that victory in November 2009 BLADE Magazine ran a special five page spread “That Young and That Good”, the article went on to say “His ability to masterfully execute new designs, processes and artistic Damascus patterns is remarkable. In spite of his young age, his fit/finish and attention to detail is representative of some of today's most known and sought after makers.” He was one of two to achieve Mastersmith by the age of twenty. His knives and his skills are highly sought after worldwide."
This Kyle Royer Damascus Bowie knife was made before he was a Journeyman Smith. The only stamp on the tang is "K. ROYER". Although based on Kyle's rapid rise to Mastersmith at such a young age and the demand for his knives, it is clearly evident that he was doing Mastersmith work from the very beginning of his young career. This Bowie knife features a forged 1084 and 15n20 carbon steel blade and Exhibition Grade fossil Mammoth scales. The S-shaped guard, butt cap and ferrule are Damacus, as well. The ferrule has a narrow spacer above and below it, with some fine file-work alone the edges. And the butt cap has a spacer between it and the scales, with similar file-work around the edge. The exposed tang has spacers on either side, with file-work matching the ferrule and butt cap. The top edge of the blade is sharpened for about 3 3/4" from the tip. The remaining portion of the blade spine has been ground with a "ridge" line. Also notice that the hardware is hidden - there are no visible pins in the handle material.
The knife is in new condition, having recently been acquired from the original owner who purchased it from directly from Kyle sometime in the 2008 / 2009 timeframe. It has resided in his personal collection - properly stored - until now. It is in virtually mint condition, as though new from the Kyle. The grinds on the blade are impeccable. Kyle's fit and finish is second to none. It feels perfectly balanced in-hand. It's no wonder his knives are highly coveted by collectors worldwide. This is your grail piece and destine to be the centerpiece of your collection.
The knife will come in a padded, zippered case. There is no sheath.
