Roger Bergh started his knifemaking career working with leather in 1969.  By 1973 he was making knife handles.  And by 1995 after 15 years as a part-time knifemaker he started forging his own Damascus steel under the supervision and training of Conny Persson.  He never realized that leatherwork would lead him to where he is today - one of the top knifemakers in the world.  Most of his knives are collectible, all-purpose straight knives - yet extremely functional.  Each knife is one-of-a-kind, and is made from beautiful organic materials.  The materials are used as they were shaped by nature, to create a knife that feels right in your hand.  His hand-forged Damascus is among the finest available.

This outstanding, large, "one-of-a-kind" hunting knife is an absolute testament to Roger's abilities and talent.  The upswept Damascus blade is made of high carbon spring steel, 15N20 and 20C Swedish Sandvik.  The blade almost looks like it has two patterns in it - the flat and ricasso are a mosaic pattern, and the bevel is a more linear waved pattern.  The handle is creamy natural fossilized organic material with some beautiful brown hues, surrounded by Desert Ironwood forward and behind the scales, with an additional accent piece placed behind the forward piece of ironwood on the underside.  There are nickel silver spacers between each of the handle's components.  The single finger guard and fittings are also nickel silver.  The leather sheath was made by Roger - wood lined, and uniquely designed to grasp and lock the knife in the sheath by the guard - you can almost hear it "click" when it is inserted.  In the interest of full disclosure, there are some very fine hairlines on the guard due to this feature.  If you take a loupe to it, you may find a couple of stray very fine hairlines on the blade, that you really have to look for hidden in the Damascus pattern - impossible to photograph.  This could also be due to insertion into the sheath, and / or handling.  Roger doesn't make many hunters of this size.  This one borders on being the size of a short sword.  It was custom ordered by the original owner.
