Scott Slobodian, Swordsmith, "The Japanese Bowie" (SOLD)
Scott Slobodian, Swordsmith, "The Japanese Bowie" (SOLD)
Scott learned grinding, forging and clay tempering from the late Bob Engnath. He has been making knives for decades. He has won many major awards including winning Knives Illustrated Best Art Knife of the Year for four consecutive years. In 1996 he also won Blade Magazine's Best Art Knife of the Year. Scott has been featured in every major knife magazine in the U.S., Europe and Japan. He is also a member of The Knifemakers' Guild in the U.S.A., The Knifemakers' Guild of Germany, and The Knifemakers' Guild of Italy. He is in major collections in over 18 countries. His knives are hard to acquire and quite desirable among collectors. Scott calls this knife The Japanese Bowie, a blend of East meets West. The blade was forged from 1050 steel with a well-defined and beautiful hamon (and slightly tapered tang), has a Maple Burl wood handle with six (6) mosaic pins, and Sterling Silver fittings. If Scott were to make this knife today, it would cost approximately $1800. This knife was acquired from the original owner. It was made in 2001. It has never been used or sharpened. Over time, the guard has developed a patina, and the blade has a couple of tiny carbon pepper marks. I am confident that the patina would polish up nicely with a little Simichrome (or similar product), and the blade could be buffed. The blade also features a Spanish Notch at the base near the ricasso. The top edge is not sharpened. This knife does not come with a sheath. It will come with a padded zippered case. Includes the original Certificate of Purchase.
