Steve Dunn M.S. Large Damascus Bowie, Mammoth Scales, 24K Gold Engraved
Steve Dunn began making knives as a hobby in 1988 and in 1990 enrolled in the basic forging class at the ABS school in Washington, Arkansas, where he started forging his own Damascus. By 1994 he had reached the level of Master Bladesmith in the American Bladesmith Society and began teaching at the ABS knife-making school. In 2003 he was selected to serve on the ABS Board of Directors. And in June 2019 Steve became the President of the ABS. All of Steve's knives are sole authorship. In fact, Steve even does his own engraving. In April 2002, he attended a basic engraving class at the GRS Engraving School in Emporia, Kansas, and is now an instructor at the GRS Engraving School. Steve is at the top of his game. His knives are highly sought after by collectors. And it doesn't hurt that he is a real gentleman and very easy guy to talk to. This Steve Dunn large Damascus Bowie is one of the best examples of Steve’s forging and knifemaking skills. The feather pattern Damascus blade was forged from 1084 and 15n20 steels. The top edge has not been sharpened. Steve inlaid 24K gold into both his “DUNN” maker’s mark, as well as his “M.S.” stamp. He also expertly engraved a nearly 1.5” section of the spine of the blade near the guard, and inlaid 24K gold into the leaves. The visible full tang handle is constructed with two very well-matched presentation grade Mammoth scales, held by five (5) large gold pins. This is some of the nicest fossil material I have seen, veiny with blues and greens and great depth. Steve has also expertly engraved a leaf pattern in the 416 stainless steel double guard on both sides from end-to-end, and inlaid 24K gold in it, as well. And as if that wasn’t enough gold, Steve also constructed the knife with a collar/bolster and extensively engraved it on all four sides, inlaying 24K gold throughout. There’s a ton of gold in this one! This is one of Steve’s signature Bowies. Surely a grail knife for most collectors. This knife came to Windy City Knives from the one previous owner, and in excellent condition. The knife is extremely well-balanced and quick in-hand. There is no sheath. It will come with a padded, zippered case.
